Planning a shark fishing adventure with Trip’s Shark Charters and Guide Will? Before you hit the beach for an unforgettable experience, it’s important to make sure you have the proper fishing license. Here’s everything you need to know about obtaining a Florida fishing license and ensuring you’re compliant with state regulations.
Who Needs a Florida Fishing License?
Florida law requires most anglers to have a valid fishing license when fishing in public waters, whether from a boat or land. Since our shark fishing trips are land-based, you will need a Florida Saltwater Shoreline Fishing License or a Regular Saltwater Fishing License to participate.
However, some anglers may qualify for exemptions, including:
- Florida residents over the age of 65 (with proof of residency)
- Children under the age of 16
- Active-duty military personnel who are Florida residents
- Anglers fishing on a licensed charter boat (this does not apply to land-based fishing)
How to Get Your Fishing License
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) makes obtaining a fishing license quick and easy. You can get your license through several methods:
- Online: Visit the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) website to purchase your license online.
- By Phone: Call the FWC licensing department at 888-FISH-FLORIDA (888-347-4356) to get a license over the phone.
- In-Person: Stop by a registered license agent, such as local bait and tackle shops, Walmart, Bass Pro Shops, and other sporting goods stores.
- Through the FWC App: Download the Fish|Hunt FL mobile app to purchase and store your license digitally.
Types of Fishing Licenses
If you’re fishing with Trip’s Shark Charters, you will need one of the following:
- Saltwater Shoreline Fishing License (Free for Florida residents): Required for anyone fishing from the beach or shore for saltwater species, including sharks.
- Non-Resident Saltwater Fishing License:
- 3-day license - $17
- 7-day license - $30
- Annual license - $47
- Florida Resident Annual Saltwater License: $17 for residents who want full saltwater fishing privileges beyond shore fishing.
